Visit idyllic Alrø
In the rural idyll of Alrø, tranquility reigns, and with its beautiful half-timbered houses lining the winding country road, the island bears witness to a Denmark of days gone by.

With its only 7.7 square kilometres, Alrø is a true little gem in the middle of Horsens Fjord with sea views, small farm shops and the biggest tartlets ind the country
How to get to Alrø
You can walk, cycle or drive to the island via the dam from the north side of Horsens Fjord.
During the summer, you can continue across the fjord island hopping with The Bicycle Ferry (for cyclists and pedestrians) on to Hjarnø and from there reach the mainland in Snaptun.
The ferry sails from the steamship pier at the southernmost end of the island.

Catch fish or a big wave on your surfboard
There is good fishing on the north side of the island, and the south side of the island offers good conditions for wind and kite surfing.

Visit two islands in one day
From the southern tip of Alrø, you can take the small bicycle ferry during the summer season, which sails to the neighbouring island of Hjarnø.

How did Alrø get its name?
Legend has it that the island of Alrø got its name in Viking times when the Viking King Hjarne lived on Hjarnø. He married the female warrior Alrune and gave her Alrø (Alrunes ø - Alrune’s Island), and their son Endlau was given the island of Endelave.
