What to experience on Hjarnø

Join the treasure hunt on the small island of Hjarnø and discover all it has to offer. You can even take home a free gold medal as a souvenir.

On the island’s southern beach you will find the Calf Stones, which is a protected area with 10 shipwrecks from the Viking Age. The ship-shaped tomb monuments are up to 8 metres long and formed by upright boulders. King Hjarne, who has given his name to the island, is said to be buried here!

In the middle of the beautiful island of Hjarnø in Horsens Fjord lies a mini-golf course where the whole family can compete against each other in this fun family activity.

You'll find Hjarnø's best coffee in the middle of the island at Jane Willumsgaard's place, where you can also participate in workshops or browse the art in the gallery.

Hjarnø Traktorture offers guided roundtrips on Hjarnø where you will hear about Hjarnø's exciting history, and about life on a small island. The tours can be combined with a visit to the local vineyard or a meal. 

Make your way past the small and cosy Hjarnø Church, which is Denmark’s second smallest church. The island’s Viking history is repeated here in the church, where you will find a beautiful Viking ship hanging from the church’s ceiling. The tradition of church ships in Danish churches dates back many hundreds of years, especially in churches connected to the sea, and on Hjarnø it is linked back to the island’s Viking history.

Hjarnø offers diverse hiking trails that take you around the island. Experience the coastline, nature, and attractions on a manageable and scenic walk

Unwind with a game of park golf with family or friends. Park golf can be said to be a cross between golf and croquet. Anyone can come and play park golf at Hjarnø Camping - it's not just for overnight guests. And as a day guest, you also get access to their newly built playground.

At Hjarnø Camping, you can rent SUP boards in all sizes – from small single-person boards to paddleboards that can hold up to eight people. A great place to launch your paddleboard is in the lagoon on the south side of the island, where the water is always calm and shallow.

Hjarnø has great conditions for production of vegetables, and in season you can buy fresh vegetables from the vegetable stalls around the island. Try the popular Hjarnø potatoes or benefit from the big and varied selection of vegetables from Hjarnø Kål og Grønt.
